10/08/03 Dear Grays hut users and volunteers: Thanks to everyone for caring for the cabin over the past few years. Thanks also for the volunteer help with projects and for supporting the cause. The cabin is fully stocked and ready for this winter. All weekends are currently available in November and December. Dates not available for this winter include New Years eve, January 30-31st ,MLK weekend and February 27th and 28th. We are planning to build a larger cabin on the same site, breaking ground in June of 2004. Revenues from this fall and winter are earmarked for hut expenses and for expansion. Most of you know that the cabin is located near the Grays and Torreys Summer Trailhead. In winter it is a 3 mile and 1700' elevation hike or ski from I-70 - traveling due south up the 4WD road from the Bakersville exit. This is 5 miles East of the Eisenhower Tunnel and 5 miles West of Georgetown. The cabin is well built, with one room plus loft. It sleeps up to 6 in beds, has a wood stove for heat, 3 burner gas stove, sink, dishes, silverware, table, propane lanterns, outdoor privy, gas BBQ, big deck and a year round spring. Wood, propane and paper products are provided. You will need to bring are sleeping bags and food. Dogs are not allowed because they get too cold on the floor and end up on the beds. We made a few upgrades such as a lock box for key access and a new wood stove with a better damper. There is a new wall map showing all surrounding peaks and terrain, directions to the spring and the Aspinall (ski) trail. Rates through Thanksgiving are $175 per weekend (2 nights minimum), midweek rates are $75 per night. After Thanksgiving rates are $225 per weekend and $90 midweek. To reserve dates or to request a brochure, email Graystrail@aol.com or call 970-262-0120 or 303-807-0420 (mobile). Please forward info. to your skier/hiker friends as we are trying to get the word out. Thank you, Kyle Burris |
