Directions:

The best map is the USGS 7.5 minute quadrangle 'Grays Peak'. For Avalanche forecast call 970-668-0600 or go to http://geosurvey.state.co.us/avalanche/report.asp

To get to the cabin:
Take I-70 approx. 5 miles West of Georgetown to the Bakersville exit. Winter parking is on the south side of I-70. Park by the chimney or part way up the Grays peak road. It's 3 miles and 1600' vertical to the cabin, following this 4WD (summer) road to the cabin. Mt. Baker is to your right and Mt. McLelland (Long Mtn) is to your left as you start out.

Follow the 4WD road to a fork at (mile 1.2). Take the left fork to Grays. The right fork goes up Grizzly Gulch towards Grizzly peak. (This is a nice day ski from the cabin).

At mile 1.5 you start a nice climb. Below and to your right you will see the historic Josephine Mill House. Mt. Kelso is now on your right.

Beyond the top of this hill, at approx. mile 1.8, the road passes about 50' above an avalanche path (to your right). This is a very large slide path coming off of Mt. Kelso. This can pose a hazard during extremely heavy snow years. This slide path made it to the road (the first time in 15 years) in March 03'. If in doubt, climb above the road to the left.

Beyond this slide path, stands the Josephine Mine boarding house. A ways beyond this you come to avalanche path #two (mile 2.1). This also comes off Mt. Kelso. This run out zone can easily be skirted to the left of the road.

After slide path two, you have another half mile climb. Then the gradient flattens out for the last .3 mile. Mt McLelland is to your left and Mt. Kelso is to your right.

You are close when you see a 2 story cabin under construction to your left. Our cabin is the first one on the left, 100 yards further up the road. It's hidden in the trees. There is a pull out parking space to the left - this may be blocked by a log. Our cabin is 100' to the N.E. from the pullout, past the outhouse.

GPS COORDINATES: N 39degrees 99.797 W 105degrees 47.070

If you get to the Gray's trailhead sign (foot bridge) you have gone ¼ mile too far.
