Scotch. But not the blended stuff with names like Spew Royal or Johnny Wanker.
In moderation of course. |

Yo AC,
Sorry to hear about your injury. Maybe by the time your back on your skis we'll have something worth skiing. Take care.

Then how come the sheep are so nervous in Wyoming?
Ditto the last poster's remarks even though I don't know you. |

First, sorry to hear about the collar bone. Suck.
Second, had a good day below treeline today above the CP lot. Met up with some fabulous folks at the lot and broke a skin track up through the trees to looker's right of the main gulley (which we all refuse to ascend for obvious reasons). Didn't even bother to dig since conditions have been so bad up high that there was no thought of venturing onto anything steep enough to slide. Snow condition was actually pretty good, with plenty of soft stuff. Sticking a pole deep to the ground revealed windloading deep in some spots and sitting on top of a crust on top of a pile of facets at the bottom, maybe 30-40cm. There were at least a couple fresh inches and for the most part very little wind below treeline. Snowed the whole time I was up there, and snow was increasing as I left about 3pm, with temps seeming to drop later in the day.
On the way up, well below the bench had a pretty decent collapse, which was exciting. Reinforced the conviction to stay below treeline for the day. Snow was good, but there are definitely penalties for careless lines, so now my skis have an appointment with a stone grinder. Still, had a few great runs in the trees, plan for more soon if anyone is up for it. |

Trees were great yesterday at CP, around 6 inches. The GF and I did 2 laps, late start was up there 1:30pm to 4pm. Overcast and lil windy.
Driving to the lot, got to see 3 naturals(?) on the peak north of N. Diamond. Visabilty was not the greatest didn't see tracks going in or coming out. I would guess 50 feet to 150 feet wide. Crowns ranging 1 to 5 feet.
wide shot

Me no likey, 225 pounds on top of 8" of goods, with an 1" of crust protecting the 2' of faceted death hoar is ruining my (an most others) season, since I am not into skiing dust on crust at the resorts, I think I am going to take-up knitting Snuggies and listening to Kenny G Christmas songs until the situation improves significantly...
This is beginning to remind me of our infamous 2002 season _________________ "watch out, we're in bat country..." |

Even bad skiing is better than work....
Just did some laps at Hidden Valley in RMNP. It's reasonably safe there, and was actually really good today.
As a former east coaster, and now an Estes Park skier, I'm used to horrible skiing. I prefer it that way, it takes less to make me excited.
God forbid I lived somewhere with REALLY good skiing, I'd be ruined...
I'll stay down in the trees and settle for scraps until this shit glues together. |

We got a couple laps in at Monty Bowls yesterday. Boot-top deep or better. Easy to stay on low-angle terrain. I was able to kick off some sections of cornice from the ridge, but they didn't go far or knock anything else off.
It's only Monty Bowls, but it's better than not skiing. _________________ The only thing that matters is the size of your smile. |
