There were a couple inches of new wetter stuff on Diamond yesterday. Bonding was suboptimal on steeper aspects. Our sluff eliminated all the new snow in the Vag.

Lot more than a couple inches on saturday in the alpine above lake agnes. we made an early a.m. attempt to ski a west facing couloir in the crags above agnes, and bailed about half way up after wallowing through deeper and deeper snow. by the time we made the decision to retreat, it seemed like we were looking at about 3 1/2 feet of new from the prior 3 to 4 days. regardless of what appeared to be very good bonding, our exposure and fear of dying drove our decision to retreat. i was amazed at how much snow had fallen and blown into that aspect. though given that the snow was falling and blowing from the east, not surprised. we putzed around a bit more in blinding white out conditions for a couple more hours up towards the saddle, and by noon, estimated about a foot of fresh in 5 hours. To anyone wanting to get a descent of any of those west facing couloirs above the lake, this week will definitely be prime after they settle out. Coverage will be dynamite.

Nice work Shantyman! that doesn't get skied too often. Way to get after it. _________________ "And one of the things we've got to make sure that we do is anything" - GW Bush, Wash. DC, 5/7/2002

Thanks Jd and Soylent. As g mentioned the west aspects were nicely filled in. That doesn't happen too often, wish it did! It sure is nice to ski different stuff.
