Any word from weekend? Anyone try Nokuloir or GC?

My buddy and I went up to the crags on Saturday. Snowmobilers were busy high marking when we arrived unfortunately. Rude too. I don't know if they accessed it legally or not. I don't know what the legal route is or what route they took.

Anyway, I figured four 'bilers high marking just north of the crags on a high east-facing CAIC "considerable" slope was a pretty good stability test so we went up toward Grand Central. There was a pretty tender wind slab with shooting cracks. Hoping to get to a better aspect, I headed south. Conditions didn't really improve so we bailed. Nothing was propagating, but better to live to ski another day. I didn't dig a pit because I figured I already was seeing red flags and didn't want to talk myself into it because of a pit.

We skied some trees on a E/NE aspect north of the crags. Pretty good. As we climbed back to the ridge along the northeast, we came upon a small avalanche that was a few days old in the trees and got shooting cracks there too.

So we ended up skiing the longest run. It could fill in more and cover up some of those trees, but the snow was pretty good. We got one shooting crack on a convexity below one of the roads when we cut it. No surprise there. No propagation either.

'09/'10 is as avy prone as I can recall seeing it. When will it ever improve?[/quote]

Rude, but with every reason to be. I believe you were the ones who opened your mouths first with arrogant comments right off the bat instead of maybe saying "hey, hows it going?" Maybe next time start with something polite and you won't receive the backlash you did. You don't know us so don't quiz us on avy conditions when you two hypocrites went into the worst chute for avy's in that entire bowl.... and it hadn't even slid yet when every time I've been up there it has already slid. We could have ruined your day and sidehilled every line up there in 2 minutes....but we were nice and let you have your run down in fresh lines and stuck to just that one aspect we were riding when you saw us.

Yes the route we took in/out is 100% legal just like last year. We have talked to 3 of the local forest service guys about this, all on separate occasions. If you feel the need, go talk to them yourselves to confirm. It's funny how I actually pay for 2 sled registrations and a CO parks pass every year totalling over $100. Where do you think that $$$ goes? Are you paying those fees as well to go skiing? And yet we are the ones that don't belong? This is everyones land. Might suck to hear but fact is fact.

Like I said last year...we only go into Paradise bowl 3-4 times a year at most...and are the only guys who ever go in that bowl (very tough to get in/out). Deal with it for the day or go into another area that is illegal to snowmobiles. You guys have more areas to ride then us by a long shot.
I'll give you just a few other sweet nearby areas sleds can't be in... (but I'm sure you already knew these)

Neota Wilderness
Rawah Wilderness
Ruby Jewel Lake
Agnes bowl
RMNP
Diamond

We are just out there to have a good time, just like you. But beware how you approach strangers in the backcountry. If you have the same attitude chances are next time you will come across a group of sledders who might not be so kind to you and the slopes you want to hit.

Thanks for the reports.

As much fun as it is to watch the fireworks, I respectfully request that we keep this thread on its subject and make a new thread for the access conversation.

C02 sounds about as defensive as my wife when i tell her that she is not always right.

In any event, who really gives a fuck. Sled wherever you choose. There is certainly no need to start this stupid pissing match year after year. The only surprise is that Co2 for some reason appears to give a fuck. The bigger surprise is that CO2 is looking at, reviewing, and cares about what is said on a skiiers website when he does not appear to be a skier.

And for what it is worth, this comment about the "worst chute for avys" is fairly comical. It is all dangerous up there this time of year, moreso this year. The reality is that the big east face north of the crags is probably more dangerous than either of the couloirs, for many reasons, none of which i will go into. When in doubt, don't embarass yourself by trying to talk as if you had a clue about what is more dangerous.

I really don't give a fuck, but I was a backcountry boarder before I was a sledder. I just want the information to be out there so the next time you guys see a sledder in Paradise bowl, you had the heads up here first.

After hearing what Patrick had to say on PM, there was obviously confusion on both sides with what was said and the tones involved. Neither of us were the ones barking at each other either. Regardless, I'm done. Sorry to get off topic fellas. Lets just all hope they get some more snow up there asap...

Shall I say I have gone at dusk
through narrow streets and watched the smoke
that rises from the pipes of lonely men in shirt sleeves
leaning out of windows?
I should have been a pair of ragged claws
scuttling across the floors of silent seas

- T.S. Elliot

Met up with DRock and company this morning, Lapped Ptarmigan Run four times and then skied the S. shoulder of North Diamond and enjoyed incredible tree shots down to Cameron Connection. Snow was good but the wind was howling all day and stripping the peaks. We got to it just in time. Wink
